Our state floats received many positive comments!  They've been on display in the library all week.  They are ready to be brought home.  If you'd like for them to ride on the bus, I'll arrange with the bus driver for a safe space for the float ahead of time.  If you already have, or would like to pick it up in person, that's great too.

We've had a terrific week of learning!  Every day this week our phonics instruction focused on ways to spell the long vowel sound of each vowel. A,E,I,O & U.

We are subtracting multi-digit numbers, collecting quarters, practicing fact fluency and identifying 3D shapes in number corner.

We started our persuasive writing unit this week with book recommendations.  We learned to write about the main character with description, share about a favorite part as well as think about how to write toward a specific audience.

Our math focus for the next few weeks is measurement.  We have introduced the inch and foot/feet unit of measure with the book, The King's Foot, by Rolf Myller.  Students made inchworm rulers as well as using standard rulers to measure.

During mindfulness this month our focus is gratitude. This week each day students were asked to write and draw about a theme and feeling grateful about it.  This is the small, five-page packet in their folder.

Science workshop is about states of matter!  We read Curious Pearl Science Girl by Eric Braun.  We sorted, classified and generated ideas about solids, liquids, and gases.  On Friday we experienced each state of matter using balloons!

During readers workshop, we read a new book every day.  We are practicing retelling a story with detail using the words: first, next, then, after that, in the end.  Readers can use this strategy with their five fingers.   We are enjoying our books!

Today is Pi Day, so we celebrated on Friday, reading Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi by Cindy Neuschwander.  Then we created math art with concentric circles and digits of pi skyline.

In student folders, you'll find information regarding the spring fair.
Thank you for all you do,
Jen Belisle

**We are teaching, reviewing and expecting hand washing.  We are keeping our chair pouches in our cubbies so tables and chairs can be wiped down daily.  Thank you for helping to support our calm focus on learning.

Researching, Creating, Parading and Discovering!
What a beautiful transition back to school.  Each student used their state research to create a state float for our parade on Friday.  Our classroom was full of creativity, cooperation and joy.  Here are some photos of our journey.

Thanks for Erin & Dee for teaching us about Wind Power on Friday as part of our Maker Time!
